Plans for a performing arts academy in Cheticamp is getting a boost from several sources. Over the weekend, Cape Breton Canso MP Rodger Cuzner announced the federal government will provide $500,000 to the Cheticamp Arts Council for that project. Funding comes from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency’s Innovative Communities Fund. The province is also contributing $400,000 toward this project. The County of Inverness and the French Language School Board are also partners in this project.
Plans include an outdoor classroom, theatre and boardwalk, a cafe, office and common areas. Students will be recruited both regionally and internationally. The arts academy is aimed at filling a need for arts education in the area and raise Cheticamp’s profile as an arts destination.
