An Antigonish native is being honoured by the Atlantic School of Theology.  As part of the school’s convocation over the weekend,  Sister Jovita MacPherson, the Director of the Sisters of St. Martha Street Ministry in Halifax was named the winner of the Honourable Mayann Francis Faith in Action Award.   The Award  honours exceptional community outreach providing significant benefit to the wider community.  MacPherson says she’s delighted to receive the award and it brings attention to the homeless that her ministry serves
AST notes the Saint Mary’s Outreach Program exists because of Sister Jovita.  More than an ordinary “Soup Kitchen of Goodwill”; it has become the hub of socialization for many.  It also provides additional services including haircuts, art classes, clothing, access to legal services, and specially made meals.
