Sidney Crosby scored the winner in overtime as Canada won the Olympic title Sunday, beating the United States 3-2 to become the first host nation to capture men’s hockey gold in 30 years.
Crosby got the winning goal 7:40 into the overtime period, taking a pass from Jarome Iginla and sliding a shot under the pads of US goaltender Ryan Miller.
“It doesn’t even feel real. It feels like a dream,” said Crosby as Canada clinched a record eighth Olympic men’s hockey gold.
“Our team worked really hard in regulation time and they got that one by us in the end. But we came out in overtime and this is just an unbelievable feeling.”
Nova Scotia has its own competition of sorts at the Olympics — to stand out.
The key venue is Atlantic Canada House, a pavilion on Granville Island expected to draw 35,000 visitors a day. The four provinces in the region are each contributing $500,000.
On Nova Scotia Day the province took centrestage to show off its food, wine and music.
Nova Scotia is featured through video and song at BC Place, where thousands of people are expected for the nightly gathering to honour medal winners.
More than two dozen musicians and groups are set to perform, from fiddler Ashley MacIsaac to country crooner George Canyon.
There is also a delegation from Nova Scotia Business Inc., the province’s business development agency. It has bought $14,000 worth of tickets to Olympic events to woo potential investors.
Premier Darrell Dexter is spending a week in Vancouver. A spokesperson for the province told CBC News late Monday that the program was under budget by about $250,000.

George Canyon has the Sconestone
Posted on February 24, 2010 at 12:00 pm by devin in Event

Multiple Juno and CCMA award winning Canadian music artist George Canyon is the 16th Keeper of the Sconestone.
The Sconestone is a small stone carving inspired by ancient Scottish carvings that we will send on a journey of Kindness around the world, coming in contact with people from every climate, continent and culture. The Sconestone will act as a symbol encouraging those who have touched it to do an act of Kindness and ultimately help in their own small way to make the world a better place. Every person who touches or cares for the Sconestone must do their part and pledge to:
1. Do at least one Act of Kindness to a person, animal or anything that is good for the planet as a whole.
2. Keep the stone for no more than 7 days.
3. Encourage friends and strangers to touch the stone and pledge to do an act of kindness. Be creative!
4. Please pass the stone on to a person you trust will honour the purpose of the stone.
5. And lastly, come onto this website and tell us your Sconestone story and the act of Kindness you performed, no matter how small or grand.
