A couple of winners from the  prestigious Westminster Dog Show in New York City have ties to Antigonish County.
Judged as Best of Breed for Entlebucher Mountain Dogs was ” Riverwest Assante”, bred by Jane Haley of Lower West River.  Haley says she’s quite pleased with his showing in New York.
A Norwegian Elkhound, “Vin-Melca’s Daggarwoods Delight”, a decendant from the former Daggarwoods Kennel in Antigonish County won the Best of Breed and Best of Group at the show.  Peggy and Owen Cameron of Antigonish owned the kennel, and sold it to a Halifax County breeder in the 1990’s, Nicole Casavechia.  Peggy Cameron says Casavechia has enjoyed previous success at that show.
The Westminster Dog Show, billed as the “World’s Greatest Dog Show”, it has been in existence since 1877
