Discover Canada – a Celebration of Canadian Citizenship

To celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, in partnership with YREACH, the New Glasgow Library is hosting sessions on some of the required knowledge for Canadian citizenship tests. This is not a citizenship prep course, but rather a series to inspire you to learn more about the country we all call home. Everyone is welcome!

Elections in Canada (Thursday, May 25) – Learn about the right to vote and important information for taking part in the upcoming Provincial election.

Government 101 (Thursday, June 01) – Wondering who to turn to when you have questinos? Well … ask here first! We will try to help you navigate the different levels of government and what services they offer.

Geography Trivia (Thursday, June 8) – Are you a geography whiz? Or, new to Canada and wanting to learn more? We will talk about the basics every Canadian should know and then have a fun quiz at the end of the evening to test your knowledge. The trivia will take place in teams so bring some friends or find some people to partner up with at the session.

Canadian History (Thursday, June 15) – John Ashton, a local historian, will be joining us to discuss Pictou County’s rich history of welcoming immigrants and newcomers.

Symbols (Thursday, June 22) – What does Canada mean to you? Learn about some significant Canadian symbols and help us to create our own expression of what Canada means to our community.
