Kitchen Party Facebook Page created to Lift Our Spirits During the COVID-19 Pandemic Remains Popular

A Facebook page created by a Pictou County native to offer some positivity during the COVID-19 pandemic is still going strong.  Heather Cameron Thomson of Rocklin is the founder of the Ultimate Online Nova Scotia Kitchen Party (COVID-19 Edition) page.  Cameron Thomson, who was feeling the weight of the negativity and uncertainty of the pandemic, was uplifted seeing several friends’ posts playing music.  Inspired by that, Cameron Thompson created the page on March 19th.

The page caught on quickly and at its peak had more than 280,000 members from 99 countries.  Membership is down slightly by about three per cent, as people returned to work, but Cameron Thomson says that was to be expected.  Cameron Thomson says it’s trying to keep the page fun in several ways including themed weekends, prize draws and selling merchandise with other plans in the wings.

Cameron Thomson says the page still averages more than 12-hundred new posts a day.   She says a pleasant development is seeing performances from long-time members who have not contributed before.
