The first phase of an affordable housing project in Antigonish officially opened over the weekend. The development, called Riverside Estates was spearheaded by the
Antigonish Affordable Housing Society. It includes four units, two of them barrier-free for persons with disabilities. The land for the project on Riverside Drive, off Vincent’s Way, was donated by the Town of Antigonish. The federal and provincial governments jointly provided 100-thousand dollars. The County of Antigonish and the Sisters of St. Martha have also each committed 100-thousand dollars to the project.
Society Chair Colleen Cameron says this development is going to benefit the whole community.
The tenants can move in April 1st. Fund-raising has begun for the second phase of the project, a 10 unit facility.
