The St.FX President’s Colloquium was held Tuesday night in Lane Hall with discussion focused around social justice from the African Heritage Perspective. The event featured conversations by panelists around the topics of cultural identity, activism and discussing solutions to solving racism.
St.FX Women’s basketball coach, Augy Jones, was one of the panelists. Jones’ father, Rocky, was a pioneer in the human rights movement locally. Augy says having events such as this colloquium is important for people in the community. The topics may teeter into uncomfortable topics, but that is part of perspective learning:
The goal of the event was to bring people together to extend the conversation of social justice into the residence of Lane Hall. Having important conversations in non-traditional spaces allow academic conversations to happen outside the walls of lecture halls and classrooms.
