A new sensor being developed at St. FX University to detect gas leaks for Canada’s Petroleum Industry is a step closer to commercial development.
St. FX has signed a technology collaboration agreement with Toronto-based Altus Group Limited.  It gives the company exclusive worldwide commercialization usage rights to the university’s vehicle mounted gas leak detection techology, called ExACT.  ExACT stands for Emissions Attribution via Computational Techniques.
St. FX Earth Sciences Professor and lead researcher at the university’s FLUX Lab, Dave Risk says it’s an ideal partnership.
The sensor can detect large emissions from 20 kilometres away, and smaller ones within several hundred metres.  It’s been in development for about five years.
