The provincial government says 779 teachers had applied by yesterday’s deadline for one of nine spots on the classroom conditions council that will go to educators. The nine teachers will be represented by three each from elementary, junior, and senior high school.

Superintendent Ford Rice said at last night’s Strait Regional School Board Meeting that he will play a role in picking the representatives for the committee. Rice says that with a large number of applicants, it means the decision will be hard when selecting the committee:

Over eight per cent of the 9300 public school teachers have applied to be on this committee. Initial recommendations from the council are expected no later than April 28.
