Work continues on the Pictou County Rural Internet Project.
Warden Robert Parker said they are waiting for a lot of paper work to be finished but they are working on setting up a tower on Hardwood Hill. The county also applied for federal funding under the emergency wing of the broadband initiative. If the county gets the funding, which they should find out about within a month or so, it would allow them to construct towers throughout the county and make it easier to get wireless in homes. The county previously applied for CRTC funding as well.
A release from the county stated they recently approved $11 million to fund the first phase of its rural internet project that will see residents in the areas of Lyons Brook, Hardwood Hill, Abercrombie, and Granton have access to high-speed internet.
The county expects to receive a shipment of fibre-optic cable within two weeks. They need permission from NSP and Bell to hook onto power poles before moving ahead with that though.
