For Central Nova MP Sean Fraser it’s been quite a year. At the beginning of 2025, Canada had a different Prime Minister in Justin Trudeau and for Fraser personally, he was planning to retire from politics.
Now there’s a new Prime Minister in Mark Carney, the Liberals were returned to power and Fraser remained in politics and is now the Federal Justice Minister.

Fraser says it was also a time for Canada to build its economy. He says it’s been amazing to watch ordinary Canadians responding to the economic challenges facing our country, including buying Canadian-made products.
Fraser says the impacts of some government initiatives, such as increased defence spending are beginning to be seen. He says opportunities will come soon for small and medium sized businesses in the region; pointing out 20 per cent of aerospace and defence jobs in the country are based in Atlantic Canada.
Fraser says in his role as Justice Minister, legislation has been passed this year that makes it harder for violent and repeat offenders to be released into the community.
Fraser says the law is shifting with a greater focus to protect those experiencing gender based violence.
