A community forum to discuss a community-wide district heating system and connected biomass combined heat and power plant for New Glasgow is set for Tuesday evening.
TorchLight, Rathco, and ACFOR have been working collaboratively with the Town of New Glasgow since last year to complete a feasibility study on the project. With the study nearing completion, organizers are hosting an open community forum on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Glasgow Square Theatre.

Biomass Heat and Power Plant
Jamie Stephen, managing director of TorchLight, called the forum an opportunity for residents to learn about district heating, what the study has found, and to talk about whether or not this is something they want developed in the community.
Stephen said the feasibility study should be wrapped up by the end of year.
The proposed district heating network infrastructure would be developed as a consumer-owned not-for-profit co-operative, with building owners connected to the network owning the network. The biomass combined heat and power plant would be owned by a woodland owners co-operative and First Nations.
