A group of Pictou County residents have come together to meet, learn and hold public discussions about our democracy.

Nova Scotia Legislature
The group is called Democracy Talk. One of the organizers of Democracy Talks, Nova Poirier, says it was formed by a small group of local women in the late winter of 2025. Poirier says it was established for several reasons.
Poirier says the group began with meetings in the spring of last year, just before federal election and held five presentations . This spring, there were another five presentations, a panel discussion and a talking circle.
Poirier says the group is non-partisan. The season finale held earlier this month discussed the topic of the health of democracy in Canada . It featured St. FX Political Science Professor Jim Bickerton, retired St. FX Political Science Professor Yvon Grenier and retired CBC Nova Scotia Legislature Reporter Jean Laroche.
