The Antigonish Angels 18U team won the Baseball Nova Scotia ‘A’ Tier 2 provincial championship Sunday, August 17, defeating the Halifax Mets 8-6 in the final. The Eastern Passage Pirates hosted the 8-team tournament. Antigonish finished with a 5-0 record.
In the Friday night opener, the Angels staged a come from behind victory over the Cape Breton Expos winning 12-5. Dawson Wallace was the player of the game for a strong defensive performance which included a diving catch in centerfield followed by a put out at home to prevent a run.
The Angels faced the host Pirates Saturday morning winning 4-3. Tom Lazzuri pitched 5.1 innings in relief, striking out eight and hitting a double to earn player of the game honours.
Saturday evening Cameron Fraser got the start on the mound and had a single as he earned player of the game with a lengthy, gutsy effort against the West Hants Coyotes in an 11-10 victory.
Jesse Burns struck out five of the first six batters of the game in Sunday’s semifinal against Eastern Passage team 2. Jesse was named player of the game for his masterful 6-inning, 10 strike out effort.

In the final, the Angels faced the Mets, a team they had tied twice during the regular season. Antigonish jumped out to a 3-0 lead before falling behind 5-4. A fourth inning 3-run rally put the Angels ahead for good. An add on run in the 5th helped as Bradley MacLellan pitched well in relief to earn player of the game honours.
Jason Burns and Dan Fraser coached the Angels this year which only loses two players who are aging out of the division, Jesse Burns and Cameron Fraser. The team includes Ty Jewers, Jesse Burns, Cameron Fraser, Bradley MacLellan, Tom Lazzuri, Corson Ross, Dawson Wallace, Uriah Johnson, Alex MacDonald, Zack Smith, Blaine MacDonald, Joe Bond, and Chad Deyoung.
