Antigonish County Council Receives Update on Boundary Review

Oct 2, 2023 | Local News

During Tuesday night’s committee of the whole meeting, Antigonish County Council heard from Stantec, the company performing a mandated boundary review, as well as taking a look at the number of councillors for the area. Antigonish County Warden Owen McCarron said it will soon start the process, which will include looking at the populations of the current districts.

The Municipal Government Act requires every municipal council to conduct a study and apply to the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board to confirm or alter the number of councillors and the boundaries of the polling districts every eight years.

McCarron said he expects Stantec will put some firm dates on paper shortly for the work and consultations, noting he suspects they will start their individual meetings with councillors by the third week of September.
