Remembrance Day will look a little different this year in Antigonish.
Royal Canadian Legion Arras Branch 59 president James Matheson said there will not be a public service at the cenotaph on November 11. Due to mandates from national command, Nova Scotia Nunavut command, and public health regulations, Matheson said organizers decided to do something different.
This year, when the public purchases wreaths for Remembrance Day, the legion is asking people to leave the wreaths with them for placement at the cenotaph ahead of time for a pre-taped ceremony ready for release on November 11.
Matheson said it was a tough decision for the legion as the public support is encouraging during the regular Remembrance Ceremony.
The wreath sales will run from October 30 until November 10, but people looking to have their wreath in the pre-taped service, they are asked to purchase before November 7. As for the poppy campaign, it will kick off on October 30th, with the distribution of poppy boxes at retail locations. They won’t be able to sit and meet with the public this year but people are welcome to make donations.
