Antigonish native Eric Anstey raising money for Scholarship in his 12 Dares of Christmas

Dec 7, 2020 | Local News

The 12 Dares of Christmas are back again this year.

Antigonish native and current Sackville resident Eric Anstey has spent a portion of the holiday season over the last four years accepting dares in the name of charity, specifically the Rylee Sears Scholarship Fund. Sears, Anstey’s cousin, passed away in 2015 at the age of 16 after contracting meningitis.

In years past, Anstey sang for free timbits, skated a loop on the Halifax oval in a Borat style swimsuit, and dressed like cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation. In his one dare so far this year, his visited some neighbours only in his boxers. During that time, they’ve raised close to $20,000 for the scholarship.

With COVID-19 still out there, Anstey says he’s had to be a bit more selective about the dares,. He says there will be some recognizable Tik Tok friends and at least one spicy food challenge, which he admits is not something with which he is entirely comfortable.

For more information on the dares or how to donate, please visit the 12 Dares of Christmas page on Facebook.
