Antigonish Town Council is looking into upgrades for town hall.

The province is looking to make public buildings accessible by 2030. When speaking about Antigonish town hall, Antigonish Town Mayor Sean Cameron said as things stand now there are two separate entrances, the front one off main street and an accessible one on the side but customers on the side can’t access the front counter. He also noted the washrooms aren’t accessible, adding they should also have an elevator.

Cameron said about two months ago the town issued an RFP for a study to identify the accessibility shortcomings in the 120-year-old building and figure out a price for the upgrade work. Cameron said it should be awarded by February, adding they are looking to do the work incrementally.
