Antigonish Town Hall Holds Public Hearing on New Land Use By-Law and Municipal Planning Strategy

Jan 17, 2020 | Local News

Antigonish Town Council hosted a public hearing for its proposed new land use bylaw and

Antigonish Mayor Laurie Boucher

municipal planning strategy last night at council chambers. Both documents received first reading last month.

Work with the public and local stakeholders on both began over a year ago.

Following a presentation describing the documents, residents were offered the chance to ask questions. One of the concerns surrounding the documents is the allowing for single unit developments to be turned into as many as four unit developments in residential zones under certain conditions.

Boucher said council will take the concerns into consideration, adding with documents of this size type, there are going to be people who aren’t happy.

The mayor thanked everyone involved in getting the bylaw and strategy to this point, including those who came out to workshops and open houses. The documnets will go to second and final reading on Monday during a regular meeting of town council.
