Nova Scotia Property owners will begin receiving their 2026 assessment notices by mail in the coming days.
The assessments are conducted annually by Property Valuation Services Corporation, the province’s independent, municipally funded not-for-profit assessment authority. The values reflect market conditions as of January first, 2025 including any renovations or demolitions.

This year’s assessment roll reached $206.3 billion; up 8 per cent. It’s the first time assessments have surpassed the $200 billion in the province’s history. Properties in and around Halifax are driving the growth with properties in the muncipality worth $113.8 billion; that’s more than half the provincial total.
The Capped Assessment Program rate is 2.6 per cent, up from 1.5 per cent last year. About 72 per cent of properties qualify for the CAP, which limits the amount the taxable assessed value can increase year over year.
