The Special Olympics Nova Scotia Provincial Summer Games last weekend at St. FX University have been declared a success.
These games were one of the largest ever. The CEO of Special Olympics Nova Scotia Michael Greek says 942 athletes and coaches attended these games. Greek says that’s about 20 team members short of the record.
Greek says hot weather was a challenge for outdoor sports this year. Outdoor events were cancelled on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon because of the heat. Greek says they worked with the teams and volunteers to reschedule events, and with the except of a couple of soccer games, they managed to get everything in.
Greek says the games were bolstered by a strong group of local volunteers. The games usually requires about 250 to 300 volunteers.
The games will return to St. FX next year, set for July 23rd to 25th, 2027
