Basketball’s Kristine Cooper and DJ Jackson named St. FX Athletes of the Week

The STFX Athletes of the Week come from basketball.

X-Women Basketball guard Kristine Cooper is the STFX Female Athlete of the Week. Cooper, a fourth year Human Kinetics student from Hamilton, Ontario played two strong games for the X-Women this past weekend. In Friday’s 71-61 loss to Memorial, she scored 8 points and contributed 10 rebounds, 5 assists and a game-high 6 steals. In Saturday in STFX’s 76-40 victory over Memorial, Cooper earned player of the game honors with scored points and 19 rebounds, tying an X-Women Basketball record for most rebounds in a single game.

X-Men Basketball guard DJ Jackson is the STFX Male Athlete of the Week. Jackson, a second year Human Kinetics student from Mississauga, Ontario played two strong games for the X-Men in a pair of weekend wins over Memorial. Friday night, he scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal in the X-Men’s 98-69 victory. He followed that up with 25 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks in the X-Men’s 76-66 win over Memorial on Saturday, picking up player of the game honors along the way. He currently leads the AUS in scoring this season, averaging 22.2 PPG and is sixth in rebounding at 7.1 RPG.
