Canadian Cross Sets Up Temporary Office in Pictou to Help Residents Seeking Fiona Aid

Oct 14, 2022 | Local News

The Canadian Red Cross has opened a temporary office for residents of Pictou and neighbouring counties who may qualify for one or two financial aid programs related to damage from post-Tropical Storm Fiona, but may need to meet with Red Cross representatives in person and provide some additional information.

Starting today, there is a Red Cross team at the deCoste Centre for Arts and Creativity at 99 Water Street in Pictou. Team members will be there from noon to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends.

One program managed by the Red Cross on behalf of the provincial government provides a one-time payment of $1,000 per eligible household for people ordered out of their homes in the aftermath of Fiona or who cannot return to their homes because of storm damage.

The other program, funded by Red Cross donors provides $500 to eligible households in Pictou, Antigonish, Guysborough, Colchester, Cumberland, Inverness, Richmond or Victoria Counties that are unable to meet basic needs due to damage from Fiona.

A mandatory first step to benefit from one or both programs is to register with the Red Cross by calling 1-800-863-6582 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily or go online at redcross.ca/HurricaneFiona.
