Central Nova MP Sean Fraser announced over $100,000 in funding for food banks in Picotu, Antigonish and the Eastern Shore.

The money is going to Pictou Landing First Nation Band Council, Pictou West Food Bank, Pictou County East Food Bank, Salvation Army Westville Corps., Westville Community and Family Services, Kids First Association, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Pictou County, Antigonish Community Food Bank, StFX Student Food Resource Centre, Eastern Shore Volunteer Food Bank, and Rainbow Food Bank.

The food bank funding is part of the previously announced $100 million Emergency Fund for food security announced by Prime Minister Trudeau in April.

Fraser said even in ordinary times, food security is a wide spread issue in the province. During the height of the pandemic, one in seven Canadian households experienced such issues.

Fraser said he was thrilled to see the federal government step up with the funding and make sure families don’t have to worry about putting food on the table.
