Central Nova Candidates Speak to Business Audience

Four of the candidates running in Central Nova met with the Antigonish Town and County business community today.
The candidates, Liberal incumbent Sean Fraser, Conservative George Canyon, New Democrat Betsy MacDonald and Barry Randle of the Greens spoke a breakfast meeting of the Antigonish

Chamber of Commerce and then fielded a series of written questions from the audience.

Fraser says he has gained an appreciation of the challenges facing local businesses.   Fraser says progress has been made over the past four years to assist entrepreneurs.
Fraser says government has also invested in innovation by boosting funding to the Atlantic Canada Opportunties Agency and supporting reasearch at such institutions as St. FX University.
Canyon says he appreciates the challenges of the business community, having spent 29 years growing his.  Canyon says the riding has great potential.
MacDonald says there’s a plan in the NDP platform that will help families get ahead and allow them to support local businesses.

Randle says his party is committed to aggressively tackle climate change, by reducing carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2030 and be net zero by 2050.  Randle says making the change presents opportunties for the private sector.
Written questions from the audience included such topics as Arts and Culture, candidate’s positions on Abortion, High Speed Internet and the implications of the closure of the Northern Pulp mill.
