The federal government is providing more than $197,000 over two years to the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre.  The money will be used assist in evaluating a bystander

intervention program it has developed at Nova Scotia Universities and NSCC campuses.  The program’s aim is to reduce the incidence of sexualized violence at post-secondary institutions.  Funding will also be used to assist in the program’s sustainability and to translate it  into French.

The Bystander Project Coordinator Johannah Black says interventions can take on many forms.
The funding announcement was made by Central Nova MP Fraser says the incidence of sexual violence on university and community college campuses is alarming.
Black says student facilitators are trained, who then train other students on campus.
