An 86-year-old faces a charge following a three vehicle collision.

Shortly after 5 p.m. Monday, Pictou District RCMP responded to a 911 call three vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 4 and Shore Road in Sutherlands River. Police determined a pickup truck travelling East on Thorburn Road failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection before colliding with a transport truck travelling West on Highway 4. The transport truck then collided with a sedan.

The 17-year-old female driver of the sedan was transported via LifeFlight to hospital in Halifax with serious injuries. The drivers of both the pickup and the transport truck were uninjured.

The 86-year-old pickup truck driver faces a charge of Failing to Stop at a Stop Sign under the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicle Act.

RCMP were on the scene until nearly 10 p.m. Monday evening and  the investigation is ongoing.
