Trevor Poirier is the NDP candidate for the upcoming Cheticamp Margarees Pleasant Bay by-election .
Poirier, a STFX university graduate, works as a rehabilitation assistant at Foyer Pere Fiset and serves as the president of long-term care workers at CUPE local 2031. With the local involved in the recent eight-week strike involving long-term care workers in the province, Poirier said the NDP asked him to run in the by-election .

As for major issues in the area, Poirier pointed to affordability as well as the cost and lack of housing in the area .
Poirier said his main message to voters is that he is here to represent everyone while listening to their concerns, adding he wants to help build a stronger community in the riding while taking concerns to Halifax .
