Cleanup Continues from post-Tropical Storm Fiona; Some offices and Schools not operational

Sep 27, 2022 | Local News

Schools and some offices in the local area will not be operating again today as the province repairs the damage inflicted by Hurricane Fiona.

There’s no school in the Chigencto Central and Strait Regional Centres for Education, Ecole Acadienne de Pomquet, Ecole Beauport in Arichat and Ecole NDA in Cheticamp.

Classes are also cancelled today at the NSCC’s Pictou and Strait area Campuses as well as the Wagmatcook Learning Centre.

Classes are also cancelled at St. FX University.

Provincial Government offices locally are closed in Antigonish, Pictou and Victoria Counties. It’s due to power outages, unsafe roads and to allow crews to clean up. In other local areas, government offices can open, unless there are power outages.

Electrical service is returning in the Town of Antigonish, but some parts of the community remain out.

As of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Province wide Nova Scotia Power says are more than 73-hundred outages affecting 141-thousand customers. It could be Thursday before some get their electrical service back.
