Community Navigator to be Hired to Showcase Antigonish to Potential Physicians

Sep 15, 2020 | Local News

Last week, The St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation board and councils for the Town and County of Antigonish passed motions for an inter-municipal agreement for the creation of a community navigator position. The position is designed to showcase Antigonish to potential physicians.

Wayne Ezekiel, chair of the foundation, said a local doctor and community committee approached the board around a year and a half ago about similar positions popping up in New Glasgow and Yarmouth and the possibility of establishing one locally. Ezekiel said the foundation and both councils agreed to set up a separate board or governance group featuring two people from each party to oversee the navigator position, and they are now able to look at hiring someone.

Ezekiel said they would like to have the position filled by the end of the fall.
