The St. FX Female Athlete of the Week is X-Women Cross Country Runner Mairin Canning. The third year Human Kinetics student from Antigonish placed sixth overall at the USports Championship race on Sunday and led the X-Women to a team bronze medal finish. Canning earned first team All-Canadian status in a field of 147 runners and 19 teams. It marked only the second time in X-Women history they medaled at the national championship.
Canning was also named the AUS female athlete of the week.

X-Men Hockey forward Matthew Struthers is the St. FX Male Athete of the Week. The third year Business student from Milton, Ontario scored three goals in two games over the weekend, including 2 goals in the X-Men’s overtime win over Moncton and one goal in their 5-3 loss to UNB.

In Football, the St. FX Offensive Player of the Week is running back Caleb Fogarty. The fourth year Business student in his third year of eligibility from Moncton received the Don Loney Trophy as the AUS championship MVP as the X-Men won their third consecutive AUS championship with a 34-23 win over Bishop’s over the weekend. Fogarty had 21 rushes for 107 yards and scored one touchdown in the game.

The Defensive Player of the Week is defensive back Brandyn Martin. The second year Education student in his fourth year of eligibility from Melford, Saskatchewan led all tacklers in the AUS championship game with 8.5 tackles, including 8 solo tackles.
The Special Teams Player of the Week is linebacker Dyton Blackett. The Business student in his 5th year of eligibility from Canning was outstanding on kick-off and punt coverage in the AUS championship game, and a leader on X-Men Special Teams all season
