The office of Premier Stephen McNeil confirmed Antigonish MLA Randy Delorey has resigned

his cabinet posts as Minister of Health and Gaelic Affairs.

While there is nothing official yet, stepping down from the cabinet posts is a prerequisite for running in the upcoming Liberal Leadership race, which will also determine the province’s next premier. Delorey is rumored to be interested in running and in a post last week on Facebook, he stated he would make an announcement sometime this week. Tomorrow is the cut off date for leadership candidates.

First elected in 2013 and re-elected in 2018, Delorey also served as minister of finance and the environment. The Liberal leadership election is set for February 6.
