Hockey Nova Scotia announced Denise Sampson of the Cabot Highlanders as the recipient of the 2026 Hockey Nova Scotia Award of Merit.
Hockey NS states the Award of Merit recognizes individuals who make significant contributions to the game through their dedication and service.

Sampson began with the Cabot Highlanders before the organization was even a team, giving her time, creative energy, and focus to the club. Over eight seasons, she has transitioned from Secretary and Financial Officer into General Manager, all while wearing many additional hats, including Safety Officer, Social Media Manager, and acting as right hand to the coaching staff.
Beyond her many roles, Sampson organizes fundraisers for the club and to ease the financial burden parents face at this level of play. In 2025, the Cabot Highlanders hosted the Maritime Championship, where she served as Tournament Chair
