Desmond Fatal Inquiry to Seeks Submissions Next Week from Interested Participants

May 16, 2019 | Local News

Public hearings to determine the participants for the upcoming Desmond Fatality Inquiry will begin in Guysborough on Tuesday, May 21. The Inquiry’s mandate is to determine the circumstances under which the deaths of Lionel Desmond and his family occurred and whether Desmond and his family had access to mental health and domestic violence intervention services.

The Nova Scotia judiciary stated this stage of the proceedings will not be livestreamed. Media and the public are welcome to attend the hearings in person at the Guysborough Municipal Building.

Seating in the hearing room is limited and family members involved in the Inquiry will receive priority. There will be a live video feed from the hearing room to a Media Room on site and, if necessary, to an overflow viewing room at the nearby Chedabucto Lifestyle Centre.

The hearings are set to begin at 9:30 a.m. and the building will open to media and the public at 8:30 a.m.

A judge will file a written report with the Provincial Court containing findings and recommendations following the inquiry.
