The federal government yesterday announced funding to support social inclusion for seniors in their communities.
Cape Breton Canso Antigonish MP Jamie Battiste made the announcement at STFX University. The university’s collective impact project is set to receive over $3.45 million over five years under the pan-Canadian stream of the 2023-24 New Horizons for Seniors Program.
A release from the federal government states STFX will work with various organizations across northeastern Nova Scotia to increase the social inclusion of vulnerable seniors aged 55 and above with disabilities. The plan is to map and increase access to programs and services, encourage intergenerational connection, and volunteer participation.
Battiste said he was happy to make the announcement.
Dr. Erin Morton, associate vice president of research, graduate, and professional studies at STFX stated the initiative will enhance the lives of seniors by fostering collaboration among diverse organizations dedicated to seniors.
