A group of firefighting departments in Pictou County are hosting their third annual Firefighters for the Food Bank holiday food drive, with the collected donations going to the Pictou West and River John food banks.
Glen Joudrie, a lieutenant with the Caribou Fire Department, said they raised close to $6,000 last year and along with taking in five or six half-ton truck loads of food. He said it started after he was doing some work at one of the local food banks.
The food drive runs from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, with fire fighter collecting non-perishable food items as well as essentials like toothpaste and deodorant at various department across the county including Pictou, River John, Scotsburn, Ambercrombie, West River, and Caribou as well as the Toney River Community Hall. Pictou County 4-H will collect items at the Toney River Community Hall. The drive will also accept cash donations.
