The province reported five new cases of COVID-19 today. Health officials say all of the cases are
in the Halifax area with two related to travel, two close contacts of previous cases and one case under investigation. They say one of the cases is connected to Joseph Howe Elementary School in Halifax. The province has 59 active cases of the virus with three people in hospital, including one in intensive care.
Meanwhile, the province clarified its requirements for those arriving from New Brunswick. Effective immediately, people travelling from New Brunswick who are fully vaccinated don’t have to isolate at all, although testing is recommended. As of Wednesday June 30, there won’t be a requirement to self-isolate or complete the Nova Scotia Safe Check-in for all arrivals from New Brunswick. Premier Iain Rankin, referencing those who took part in protests at the border earlier this week, says he gets the frustration over changing rules.
Also beginning June 30, people travelling from outside Atlantic Canada can come into Nova Scotia. They will have to complete the Nova Scotia Safe Check-in form, upload their proof of vaccination electronically and be prepared to show it, if asked by border officials. They may have to isolate based on vaccination and testing.
