There are several prominent people who will be the latest recipients of the Order of Nova Scotia; the province’s highest civilian honour.
Among the notables is former Premier Darrell Dexter. Dexter is also a former municipal politician and a lawyer who has offered pro bono services to community organizations.
Another high-profile recipient is celebrated artist, songwriter, producer, mentor and philathropist Joel Plaskett.
Others to receive the Order of Nova Scotia include Halifax philanthropist and entrepreneur Jack Flemming, and Cape Breton County business and community leader Rankin MacSween, who transformed a small volunteer initiative into a national recognized model of social enterprise.
The fifth recipient is East Preston educator, human rights and community advocate Carolyn Thomas.
The investiture ceremony will be held at Government House in Halifax in the spring.
