Dec 24, 2025 | Local News

Local municipal officials and MLA’s have been contacted by the Friends of the Antigonish Library,  seeking increased and sustainable funding for local libraries.
A letter has been sent by FoAL  to provincial and Antigonish Town and County municipal representatives, expressing concerns about funding to local libraries, including testimonials from regular visitors to Peoples’ Place.

Core funding to libraries from the province has not increased in the last six years.  The Chief Librarian of the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library Eric Stackhouse has signalled that without more funding, there will be changes in 2026 in terms of reduced hours, fewer services and programs
FoAL board members Molly MacIsaac and Karen Foley say in preparing the letter, they have been talking to regular users of the library to get their input.

MacIsaac and Foley say although the deadline for public feedback on the next provincial l budget has passed, it’s important to keep the pressure on government representatives to increase funding for libraries

Broadcast Dialogue has announced the winners of the inaugural Canadian Radio Awards, which we’ve dubbed “The Howards” after our publisher emeritus Howard Christensen.

When Howard, a radio veteran and one of the original Broadcast News anchors, founded Broadcast Dialogue in 1992, he saw a need for both timely delivery of Canadian broadcast industry news, but also recognized the importance of creating a sense of community.

989 XFM is very proud to be the winner of the 2020 Station of Year – Small Market award.
