Frost, MacLellan named St. FX Athletes of the Week

A soccer player and a cross country runner are the St. FX Athletes of the Week.

The Female Athlete of the Week is X-Women Soccer defender Megan Frost, the player of the

game in St. FX’s 2-0 victory over Moncton on Thursday. She played a strong defensive game for the X-Women and has been part of a solid core all season that has only allowed four goals. The win tied the X-Women for second in the conference and clinched a playoff spot.

The Male Athlete of the Week is X-Men Cross Country’s Paul

MacLellan. The Antigonish native placed 12th overall in an interlock meet in Montreal, and was the first runner to cross the finish line from St. FX. The X-Men finished third overall at the meet among 14 teams from Quebec, Ontario, Atlantic Canada and the US.

The X-Men Football Players of the Week are familiar names, repeat winners from this season.

Alex Fagnan is the player of the week for offence. Fagnan,a receiver who also took the honour last week, had a 32 yard touchdown catch, and six total receptions for 102 yards in the X-Men’s recent loss to Acadia.

Defensive Lineman Isaac Fedchun, the defensive player of the week, had 6.5 tackles including five solo tackles in the game against Acadia. He is second overall in the AUS defensive stats with 47.5 tackles on the season.

The Special Teams Players of the Week is X-Men kicker/punter Keiran Burham who had seven points in the game with Acadia on a 17-yard field goal, a rouge and three point-after kicks. He also had nine punts in the game for 362 yards, averaging 40.2 yards a punt, including one inside the 20 yard line.
