There is a fund-raiser Friday night in St. Andrews for a native of the community as she embarks on a ocean research expedition to Antarctica.

Katie MacIntosh will be part of an all-female expedition team; 25 women from nine countries. MacIntosh is the lead hydrographer on this four week expedition which arrives in Antarctica in February.
MacIntosh will also be snorkeling, gathering water samples. While snorkeling, she will be observing Leopard Seals and how global warming oceans are impacting their movements. MacIntosh lives in the United Kingdom, working in project management for a subsea engineering and energy company.
As part of the trip, MacIntosh has to raise 30,000 pounds; that’s about $60,000 Canadian.
Friday’s fundraiser is a pub night a the St. Andrews Community Centre from 7 to 10 pm.
