Plans are underway for local high schools to be able to host graduation ceremonies.
Premier Iain Rankin said the department of education and public health are set to allow graduations this year for secondary education. Students, family, and staff will be able to gather in small groups in schools to recognize student achievement while following the necessary gathering limits and other health protocols.
Paul Landry, regional executive director of education for the Strait Regional Centre for Education, said high school graduations are important milestones for students, families, and staff. He said the gathering limits will align with the provincial limits at the time of the graduations.
Due to varying facility and graduating class sizes, Landry said each school’s ceremony will look a little different. Landry said the SRCE looks forward to welcoming students and families at the events recognizing the accomplishments of the graduates.
