Guysborough District Warden says it was a good time for the Municipality to Divest of the Waste Management Facility

Jun 10, 2022 | Local News

Earlier this week, Municipality of the District of Guysborough announced it entered into a

District of Guysborough Warden Vernon Pitts

definitive agreement with GFL Environmental for the sale of the Guysborough Waste Management facility from the MODG to GFL. The sale is expected to close on September 1, subject to customary conditions.

Guysborough Warden Vernon Pitts called it a good deal for the municipality. Due to the changing landscape of the solid waste field, Pitts said council felt it was a good time to divest themselves of the facility.

The municipality announced it will continue to provide its own weekly curbside collection for residents and all staff involved with waste collection will remain with the municipality. Included in the agreement were items like continued employment for staff at the facility and an ongoing waste resource benefits agreement ensuring an ongoing revenue stream for the municipality.

Pitts said the liaison committee and Eastern Solid Waste Management committee will still operate.
