Harbour Wars 2026, a community celebration in Little Harbour, Richmond County, is set for August 15.
Janelle Martell, co-chair of Harbour Wars, described the event as a friendly fishermen’s skills competition with teams of four working to be named the top crew. The competition will include dory races, a nautical obstacle course, and other events. There will also be a Captain’s Challenge, with captains and their crews taking their boats and exiting the harbour one at a time to bait and set traps then head back to the wharf as they are being timed.
The fun filled day will also include seafood concessions; a barbecue, Children’s activities from 10:30-1:30, a Cake Raffle, Silent Auction; and an all-day Lobster Trap Pub with live music.
Money raised will go to the Cape Breton Hospital Foundation’s Tom MacNeil Cancer Patient Care Fund, with Harbour Wars already raising $260,000 for the fund in five previous years. The fund supports 75-100 patients at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre each month, by covering travel to specialist appointments, medications not covered by insurance, and more.
