Health and Wellness Minister and Antigonish MLA Michelle Thompson said a recent health tour of the province was a good way to kick off her duties as minister.
In late September, Thompson and Premier Tim Houston toured the province with a senior

health system leadership group, with the plan of meeting and hearing from doctors, nurses, paramedics and others working in the province’s acute care system.
Splitting into teams to cover more ground, Thompson said there was a lot of engagement with issues like doctor recruitment and retention, red tape, and the strain of working in health care. She said people came to the table with potential solutions and ideas.
Thompson said even though the physical tour wrapped up, the department is holding 20-25 virtual stakeholder meetings. While she said the plan is to collate the data and report back, the department isn’t sitting around.
Thompson said she is hoping to see some preliminary feedback this fall, adding they want to be timely.
