Inverness County entertainer Heather Rankin is to receive Canada’s highest civilian honour.
Rankin has been appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Rankin, a singer and songwriter is being recognized for her work with the award winning band The Rankin Family as well as her solo career. The Governor General’s office says her solo albums and performances have inspired fans from coast to coast to coast; adding she is a revered icon of Cape Breton music and a generous mentor in her field.
Rankin is one of 88 new appointments to the Order, which also includes actor and philanthropist Ryan Reynolds, former CTV Atlantic News Anchor Steve Murphy and former Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Jean-Pierre Kingsley.
Rankin and the other appointees will be formally inducted into the Order at a later date.
