The St. FX Athletes of the Week are from hockey and basketball.

The female athlete of the week is X-Women hockey defender Lainey Joyce. The third year Business student from Vancouver racked up four points and was a key factor on both offence and defence at the X-Women picked up two wins over the weekend. In Friday’s 6-0 shutout over Saint Mary’s, Joyce had a goal and an assist and had two goals in their 5-1 over Dalhousie. She leads the team in scoring and its 10th overall in the AUS with 17 points, including 7 goals.

The male athlete of the week is X-Men basketball forward Phoenyx Wyse. The first year Human Kinetics student from Toronto had a big double-double in Saturday’s 82-79 road win over Acadia, scoring 21 points and hauling in 14 rebounds, four steals and a block. In Wednesday’s 86-76 win over Dalhousie, Wyse scored 7 points and added five rebounds, an assist and a steal. He is second in team scoring and 12th overall in the AUS, averaging 13.6 points per game.
