Inverness County District RCMP Suspect two Recent Fires Were Deliberately Set

Jul 16, 2026 | Local News

Inverness County District RCMP is investigating two suspected arsons they believe to be related and they are asking for information from the public to support the investigations.

On July 2, at approximately 3:30 a.m., RCMP and fire services were dispatched to a structure fire in the 1200 block of Cenotaph Road in West Bay Centre. Upon arrival, the home was engulfed in flames and sustained significant damage before the fire was extinguished. The sole occupant of the home was able to escape without injury.

On July 14, at approximately 12 p.m., RCMP learned of a potential arson that had occurred earlier that morning in Malagawatch. An abandoned home in the 8300 block of Marble Mountain Road was destroyed by fire before fire services could extinguish the flames.

Both fires were deemed suspicious and the investigations are ongoing.

Investigators are requesting information from the public related to a red sedan, driven by a man, near the home in West Bay Centre at the time of the July 2 fire. They’re also looking to speak with anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the areas or who may have information related to the fires.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Inverness County District RCMP at 902-625-2220. To remain anonymous, call Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a secure web tip at    www.crimestoppers.ns.ca   , or use the P3 Tips app.

Canadian Radio Awards: 989 XFM Small Market Station of The Year

Broadcast Dialogue has announced the winners of the inaugural Canadian Radio Awards, which we’ve dubbed “The Howards” after our publisher emeritus Howard Christensen.

When Howard, a radio veteran and one of the original Broadcast News anchors, founded Broadcast Dialogue in 1992, he saw a need for both timely delivery of Canadian broadcast industry news, but also recognized the importance of creating a sense of community.

989 XFM is very proud to be the winner of the 2020 Station of Year – Small Market award.
