MacQuarrie, who was elected in 2024, serves as the ministerial assistant to the minister of Natural Resources and the minister of Gaelic Affairs. He said he’s been busy meeting getting to know residents, including seeing them at offices in Inverness, Cheticamp, Port Hawkesbury, while learning how to best serve them.
As for the new year, MacQuarrie said the focus is on listening to residents about the issues affecting their daily lives such as food security, housing, daycare, health care, and seniors homes. He said he is working with some local food organizations in the riding to help support the volunteers, adding they are always working on the housing stock.
MacQuarrie said they had a lot of success meeting people in their communities, pointing to an outreach program for seniors that took place across the region. He said they plan on making more time and space to meet folks in their communities so they can bring their concerns and ideas forward.
